Kate made a lovely supper this evening, and to top it off we even headed into the city to get some Ben & Jerry's and have a pleasant conversation in "The Pru" food court before calling it a night. Till Friday.
By the way, thanks Barack. Thanks for coming to your senses.
Obama reverses course on alleged prison abuse photos
Aside from whether the policies on torture were just... why he ever thought releasing additional photos and top secret files on the subject would be a "good thing" is beyond me. It is really counterproductive when he is trying to improve our perception across the globe. And now that he has changed his mind not once, but twice, he is not coming off like too much of a leader, but I suppose when you are a rock star none of that matters.
And while I take the side of Obama, McCain, and yes even Newt Gingrich that the Bush administration perhaps went too far in their interrogations, the notion that what happened is worthy of being a "war crime" is absurd. Water boarding and likely other techniques were wrong, lets not allow it to happen again, but trying to make a political fiasco out of this is bad for everyone. Besides, Obama is indiscriminately signing off on bombing campaigns in Afghanistan which are resulting in many civilian casualties. If dunking someones head under water is a criminal action, than what do the bombing campaigns amount to? I think that the take home message is that War sucks, and if you plan on winning the battle, some of the tasks that need to be done are going to be rather unpleasant.
Many pundits have been trying to decide if Obama would be closer to Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter. Well at this point in the game I think his ties to a certain peanut farmer are significantly out weighing similarities to the philandering good ole boy.
